Expedited freight, loaded and gone.
Expedited means the truck is assigned to your freight and nothing else. It loads, it leaves, and it does not stop at a terminal to be cross docked, re-sorted or set aside while a trailer fills up. That is the whole difference, and it is usually the difference between making the deadline and explaining why you did not.
When expedited is the right call
A line is down and the part is sitting three states away. A customer moved a delivery appointment up and the standard transit no longer clears it. A shipment got damaged or short and the replacement has to be there before the receiving window closes. Those are expedited calls, and every one of them has a clock on it.
They have something else in common: the freight is usually worth far more than the difference in rate. Nobody expedites a pallet of packing peanuts. If you are weighing it, the question is not what the run costs, it is what a missed date costs.
What you get on an expedited run
- Direct point to point. One pickup, one delivery, no terminals in between and no other customer's freight sharing the trailer's schedule.
- A dispatcher who is watching it. Not a tracking page that updates twice a day. You get told when it is loaded and you get told if anything changes.
- Realistic timing, quoted up front. If the hours do not work we say so before you commit to your customer, not after the truck is late.
- Nights and weekends included. Freight does not only break down on Tuesday morning, so dispatch is staffed around the clock.
The honest part about transit times
A truck is not an airplane and hours of service rules are federal, not optional. A single driver has a hard daily limit on how long he can legally be behind the wheel, which is roughly why Michigan to Texas is realistically a two day run and Michigan to the West Coast is longer than that.
What changes the math is a team, where two drivers alternate and the truck keeps moving while one of them sleeps. If your deadline needs that, say so when you call and we will tell you honestly whether we can put it together for your date. Quoting a transit we cannot legally run is not a service, it is a setup for a bad phone call.

How fast can a truck be at my dock?
In southeast Michigan, often the same day, because we are based in Ypsilanti right off I-94. Farther out it depends on where the nearest available truck is. Call dispatch and you will get a real answer in a couple of minutes rather than a maybe.
Is expedited the same as hot shot?
They overlap but they are not the same. Expedited is about the freight going direct with no stops. Hot shot usually means a smaller, urgent load that gets its own truck rather than waiting for a full trailer. A load can be both.
Do you run at night and on weekends?
Yes. Dispatch is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which is the only way expedited means anything. A time critical load that has to wait until Monday morning for somebody to pick up the phone is not expedited.
